Huawei Mate 10 & Huawei Mate 10 Pro Launched – Specifications, Price & Other Information
Huawei who is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, has released their new flagships today. After so many leaks and rumors finally, Huawei Mate 10 & Huawei Mate 10 Pro has been launched today at company’s press conference in Berlin, Germany. So let’s break down these two phones in terms of specifications, price, design and other major aspects of this phone. I am writing this article with the information received during the event and personally, I have not tested the device yet.

Now, these days every flagship is moving towards bezel-less design. 1st we saw in LG g6, then it was Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ and then many followed. Because earlier companies were increasing the size of the phone, we saw 5-inch devices, a 5.5-inch device, some of then went to 6-inch or even 6.5 inches. But then more and more size went up companies learned that people are more interested towards 5 to 6-inch range. I mean that’s what is perfect size in this era. No one wants phablets these days. Even for people with big hands, 6-inch is fine. So then what should companies do. They worked on increasing the screen-to-body ratio. Earlier in 2016, avg screen-to-body ratio’s where varying somewhere around 55%-65%. But then companies thought of increasing this number and hence we derived a new concept of bezel-less phones with 18:9 aspect ratio.

So till now, you must have known that Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro might be carrying a bezel-less display and that’s a yes. :) Both the phones are carrying HUAWEI FullView Display. In Huawei Mate 10 you would see 5.9-inch HUAWEI FullView Display which comes with 16:9 aspect ratio. It’s an LCD Display with a display resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and pixel density of 499 PPI. It has 16.7M Colours with Colour Saturation(NTSC) of 96% and a High Contrast ratio of 1500:1 (Typical). Whereas in Huawei Mate 10 Pro things are a little bit different. You get 6.0-inch HUAWEI FullView Display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It’s an OLED Display with a display resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and pixel density of 402 PPI. It has 16.7M Colours gamut, with Colour Saturation(NTSC) of 112% and a High Contrast ratio of 70000:1 (Typical). Both phones incorporate HDR10 technology in their displays.
Let’s talk about the design aspect of Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. Both the phones come with 80%+ screen to body ratio. It’s unspecified, which version of corning gorilla glass protection we get to see on these devices. Both the devices have glass in front and back and company is saying that they have used some kind of innovative technology to toughen the glass by heating it up to 700 °C. Now, I didn’t understand why only Huawei Mate 10 Pro get IP 67 Dust and Water Resistant Rating and Huawei Mate 10 doesn’t get that. It’s sad! For Mate 10 you get to see fingerprint sensor in the front where for Mate 10 Pro you get to see it at the back.

We get to see a unique strip of different color which Huawei terms it as a “Signature Strip” at the back of the device where the camera lens and flash sits with Leica branding on the right.

Let’s talk about the performance aspect of these phones because for the 1st time we get to see Huawei’s made Hisilicon Kirin 970 processor. Both the phones, Huawei Mate 10 & Huawei Mate 10 Pro, incorporates Hisilicon Kirin 970. This processor is made on 10nm technology and is 64 bit 8 core (4*Cortex A73 2.36GHz + 4*Cortex A53 1.8GHz) CPU and 12 core GPU.

Now, this is not all, Kirin 970 has also an NPU i.e., a Neural Processing Unit which supports Artifical Intelligence. The graphic is supported by Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. In Huawei Mate 10 you get 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM where you get two options, 1st is same as mate 10 other option you get is 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM. Both phones are powered by 4000 mAH battery which supports fast charging with HUAWEI’s SuperCharge. And with software POV, you get Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box with Huawei’s custom UI, Emotion UI (EMUI 8.0) on the top.

Now coming to the last and very important aspect of these devices – The Camera. Now Huawei Mate 10 & Huawei Mate 10 Pro camera optics are same. No difference at all. The camera module is a new Leica dual camera set up. There is one 20 MP shooter which is a monochrome sensor and then there is a 12MP shooter which is an RGB sensor with aperture f-stop of f/1.6. Cames with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), BSI CMOS, Phase Detection Autofocus + Laser+ Depth Autofocus technology. It has features like Real-Time Recognition and AI-powered Bokeh effect, just like Google Pixel 2 phone.
The Huawei Mate 10 comes in Mocha Brown, Pink Gold, Champagne Gold and Black colors, while the Mate 10 Pro comes in Mocha Brown, Pink Gold & Midnight Blue.
Huawei Mate 10 & Huawei Mate 10 Pro – Price & Availability
Now Huawei Mate 10 is priced around $825 whereas Huawei Mate 10 Pro is priced around $943. So another flagship approaching the mark of $1000. Both phones are going on sale at the different point of time and in different countries. So by next month starting of November, we will see Huawei Mate 10 going on sale whereas Huawei Mate 10 Pro will go on sale around mid-November. Now when will these phones reach India there is no such information at this point in time.
Porsche Design Mate 10
So we have another version of this phone designed with collaboration with Porsche design. But what you are getting is Huawei Mate 10 Pro with some minor changes. You only get Diamond Black Option at color and price of this model is whopping $1646 in which you get 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage and rest everything remains the same.
